A long day of training and note taking had almost ceased to be fun. The Oriflame dlelgates had now been listening for 5 hours. They had taken copious notes of the different layers of the skin and how they worked. Now they were on to skin problems they would come up against when giving skin advice to the many women and men they would meet in their time with Oriflame (This was in the days before catalogues took over and Oriflame consultants had an easier life!)  As we came to the last subject of their diploma training I took great pleasure in saying (because I be a wicked witch sometimes!)

'Acne! There are eighty different kinds of acne. Number one is......'

And I would watch their faces fall before I would laugh and tell them about acne and how we could help it.

I say 'help' because, as yet, there is still no cure for acne and believe me, if you are suffering from acne, it is no laughing matter. There is indeed medication which helps to control it.  Often many years of medication - and usually antibiotics.

It affects women and men - as teenagers - pretty much in equal numbers; mainly caused by raging hormones and pores blocked by overactive sebaceous glands. As teenagers reach adulthood (when is that again?) it tends to fade as a challenge for most women but is sometimes carried over into the 20s and 30s by men. However, in recent years it has begun to emerge again in women in their 30s.  Another hormonal hurdle!

And so to 'HELP!

Everyone's skin is covered by an 'acid' mantle. This means that the skin's 'normal' PH level is 5.5 - 6.0 (Oriflame's products are all geared towards this.) If you did science at school you will know that 1-7 on the PH (Potential Hydrogen) scale is acid (oily skin) and 7 - 14 is alkaline (dry skin). When you are using a good skincare routine - your skin should look and feel normal. This is why soap and water is an absolute No-No. Not only is soap alkaline, it also strips the skin of the natural acid mantle which protects the skin and this can take over 7 hours to reform. This leaves the skin open to harmful bacteria for this time. This does not help acne!

Teenagers with acne often feel dirty and are tempted to wash their faces frequently - leaving their skin unprotected and  often the acne lesions can become infected. Oriflame's Pure Skin Range is ideal for teenagers and men. It is PH balanced to protect the acid mantle.

Pure Skin Scrub Face Wash Deep Action For blackheads (usually, like acne, go with oily skins) there is the Pure Skin Scrub Face Wash Deep Action code 20194 which should be used daily. It cleanses and keeps on working long after use. When there is a breakout, it is important to get it under control as quickly as possible. The secret is to bring the lesions out in all cases of acne and then you can get rid of them.
Pure Skin Blackhead Clearing Mask Deep Action Pure Skin's Deep Action Face Mask will help to draw out the spots and the Pure Skin Blackhead Toner will help to clear the pores and leave the skin feeling fresh. If the acne is on the back or chest, you should follow this routine there also.  Pure Skin Blackhead Toner Deep Action ADD TO CART Oriflame Pure Skin Blackhead Toner Deep Action Pure Skin Blackhead Toner Deep Action Average Rating: 0 Stars SKU: 20166 This powerful blackhead toner deeply cleanses and significantly reduces enlarged pores.  Pure Skin Cleansing Wipes  At this point too, I need to point out that we have some handy tools for acne sufferers. The Pure Skin Cleansing Wipes are ideal to be carried in handbags and briefcases (and ideal for travelling light too) code 30172 as are the Pure Skin SOS Gel Deep Action code 24752 and Pure Skin Hide and Treat code 20176 - a great ‘self-confidence' product as it helps to hide the spot while treating it at the same time.  Pure Skin Spot SOS Gel Deep Action

Pure Skin Shine Control Cream What about a moisturiser? Oily skins need moisture too - they just don't need any more oil. Often medication leaves acne skins feeling dry, tight and sore. Pure Skin Shine Control Cream will help to soothe and protect providing only necessary moisture.

Bioclinic Adult Skin Anti-Breakout Day/Night Now this advice has been for teenagers and men. Women who develop hormonal acne do not and should not follow this Pure Skin routine. I would advise that you use Bioclinic's Adult Anti-Breakout Day / Night  code 23770. It is from Oriflame's cosmeceutical range and is specially perfected for later onset acne. It will help treat it and fade lesions and scar tissue. By all means tie it in with the Pure Skin SOS and Hide and Treat. Often you will find this kind of acne more active around the time of your period and so you can be prepared. For normal daily skin care, use the Optimals range for either combination or oily skin. Do remember to use a night cream or the Bioclinic every night and a face mask twice a week.
